National Monument to the Forefathers

Our day in Plymouth also included a visit to the National Monument to the Forefathers. It was awesome! The 252 ft. solid granite monument is the largest in the US. But what was really neat is it's still a shinning light of the glorious working of Jesus Christ. Who knew that back in 1910 when it was completed that it would still be used as a witnessing tool in 2009....but, maybe they did...

We able to share with our boys the important of the godly forefathers that this country once had. When talked about how brave the Pilgrims were and how they sacrificed in order to get here. The love the Pilgrims had for their families to first leave everything they knew and loved in England, to move to Holland so they would have the freedom to worship as they choose. But after 12 years they found that the godless culture was affecting their children and thus they knew they needed to move again. They chose the New World. Then that historical day in September they left from England and then spent 66 days at sea, before landed in Massachusetts--here were some obstacles before landing in Plymouth, Ma, but this Christian family is thankful for their leadership and vision they had back then.
The boys were amazed at the size of the monument. The woman on top represents Faith. Then the 4 other people represent what makes up faith, and under them are two more depiction of the certain virtue or characteristics. In addition, there are craved ivory images of significant events like the signing of the Mayflower Compact and the signing of the peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanog tribe.

Along the sides of the statute are quotes from William Bradford. Also there were all the names of the people who traveled on the Mayflower too.

William Bradford's quote was a blessing to read. It also allowed my dad and i to have a really good conversation. :) Check out the fourth picture.
This was one of my favorite parts of our trip!!!
